In 1938, with war looming large it was possibly not the most auspicious year in which to launch a business venture. Alex Bone had no such qualms as he fulfilled his ambition to enter the world of structural engineering on his own account.
Beginning with relatively small-scale projects locally, Bone Connell & Baxters Limited developed its resources, contributing significantly to the war effort by producing structural steelwork for the 'Mulberry' harbours which played a vital logistical role in the weeks following D-Day.
Post-war, the company became involved in high profile contracts in 96 countries world-wide, such as the then new Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow for Rangers Football Club, completed in July 1959.
In 1998 the newly named Bone Steel moved to a custom built facility where investment in plant and technology continues to improve performance and productivity, maintaining the company's position as a leading provider of structural steelwork, integrating design, engineering and on-site erection. |
